President’s Message

Greetings on behalf of the National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA) and the Southern Region Council! NCBAA serves as a collaborative voice for the promotion of academic and professional success of Black students, faculty, staff and administrators within community colleges. This is an exciting time for Councils as we endeavor to fulfill the organization’s mission by:

  • Increasing awareness of issues facing Blacks within higher education.
  • Improving educational opportunities and professional development for Black students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Building collaborative relationships between institutions and organizations with compatible goals.
  • Ensuring that our voices are heard during the formulation of policy and decision making.

NCBAA is the first affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges, and has a long standing track record of promoting professional development within the Community College realm.

The NCBAA Southern Region includes the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, and Virginia. I encourage institutions to become members, and I also encourage you to consider joining as an individual member or to charter a local chapter. If you have questions about NCBAA or membership in the organization, feel free to email me ([email protected]) or any member of the Board.

Feel free to visit our website often, as we have plans to keep you informed and engaged.

Respectfully submitted,

Jackie C. Thomas, Jr., Ph.D.
Interim President, Southern Region
